Quantum technologies
Quantum technologies – computing, communications and sensing – are moving rapidly from research into real‑world application and deployment across industries such as finance, logistics and health. Potential benefits include faster computing, diagnosing diseases, drug discovery, inventing new materials and navigating without GPS.
Governments worldwide are investing heavily and quantum-related startups are proliferating. In 2025 alone, $9 billion was invested in this emerging tech landscape globally.
In 2025, NZIAT was directed by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology to assess New Zealand capability, and the international opportunities to commercialise quantum technologies.
