Privacy Statement

This privacy statement explains how we, the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology, located at 12 Madden Street, Auckland 1010 (we, our, us or NZIAT) will collect, use and share your personal information. This privacy statement applies when you use or access our website www.nziat.co.nz (website), submit a funding application, apply for employment or contract opportunities with us, or otherwise interact with us.

If we are not able to collect, use and disclose personal information as set out in this privacy statement, then that may impact our ability to interact with you or process any application you provide us, and may limit your use of the website.

The personal information we collect

Personal information is information that, directly or indirectly, identifies you (for example, names and email addresses). The types of personal information that we may collect about you are:

Such as your first name, last name, phone number, email and postal addresses. We will only collect this information when you provide it to us, for example as part of a funding application, an employment application (including references), business plans, tax, NZBN or through your use of our website.

Information about your employment and education history and status, qualifications, and reference and referee information.

Such as emails, telephone calls, and other correspondence, so that we may record any questions, queries and/or instructions you give us, as well as any commitments we give to you.

When you submit a funding application, we may collect bank account information and other financial details that are relevant to assessing and processing your application including information relating to credit worthiness. We may also collect financial information in connection with employment or contractor arrangements (for example, for payroll purposes).

Where you use our website, information about how you interact with our website.

Where you use our website, technical information about that use including internet protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform, referring website addresses, and other technology on the devices you use to access the website.

Such as your preferences in receiving updates, newsletters and other communications from us.

Why we use personal information

We will collect, hold and use your personal information to:

respond to any correspondence with you or requests from you;
create and maintain employment or applicant records and profiles;
assess or process funding applications;
researchers, universities and industry partners;
where you have created an employment profile, inform you of job or contract openings that match your skills and preferences;
respond to, or investigate, complaints or potential unlawful activity or to enforce our legal rights, or to protect the rights, property and safety of us, our employees, you, or others;
comply with our legal, regulatory, tax and/or accounting requirements;
monitor use of, and improve, the website;
keep you updated with alerts about funding opportunities, research developments, employment or contract opportunities, or other matters we think might be of interest to you (unless you tell us that you no longer want to receive those updates);
provide general statistics regarding the use of the website; and
help us operate and manage the website.

Who we share personal information with

In some cases, we may need to share your personal information for the purposes set out above. This means we may share your personal information with:

third parties (such as service providers, consultants, advisors and financial institutions); and
MBIE and other government agencies, organisations or institutions involved in collaborative research, the assessment of funding applications, or the processing of employment or contractor applications.

We may also need to share your personal information with third parties outside of New Zealand. When we do so, we will always try to ensure that safeguards comparable to those provided under the Privacy Act 2020 are in place.

Google analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect statistical information about visits to our website. You can read Google’s privacy statement at the Google Safety Center. These statistics allow us to, for example, measure the number of visitors to different sections of the website and publications, identify what information is of interest, monitor system performance, and help us make the website and publications more useful to visitors.

This information is aggregated and does not identify you. It includes:

your IP address;
the search terms you used;
the pages you visited on our website and the links you clicked on;
the date and time you visited the website;
the referring site (if any) from which you clicked through to our website;
your operating system, for example Windows, MacOS;
the type of web browser you used, such as Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox; and
your screen resolution, the release of your installed Flash version and the language setting of your browser.

The statistical information referred to above will be viewable by our website administrators and certain other NZIAT staff. It may also be shared with other government agencies. Google may also use the statistical data collected when you use their partners’ sites or apps.

Cookies

Browser or 'web' cookies are small text files that are sent by a website and stored on your computer's hard drive to collect information about how you browse our website. Cookies are used to:

measure how you use our website so it can be updated and improved based on your needs; and
remember the notifications you've seen so that we don't show them to you again.
