The establishment of the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Technology (NZIAT) marks a significant milestone in the Government's plan to strengthen New Zealand's science, innovation, and technology system.
Established to accelerate the development and commercialisation of advanced technologies, NZIAT will invest in research and innovation with the potential to transform industries, grow exports, and improve productivity across the economy.
With an initial Government investment of $231 million over four years, the Institute will support emerging fields including artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, advanced materials, and future manufacturing. Working in partnership with universities, research organisations, industry, and investors, NZIAT will help ensure breakthrough discoveries can move from the laboratory into real-world products, services, and businesses.
Headquartered in Auckland and supported by a network of research partnerships across the country, NZIAT has been designed to build on New Zealand's existing strengths while creating new opportunities for growth.
